Superstar Rajinikanth’s younger daughter Soundarya today tied the knot with Ashwin, a city-based entrepreneur at a traditional ceremony here.Rajinikanth, in a message to his fans, said though he wanted to invite all of them to the marriage, he was unable to do so because of space constraint and logistic reasons. “Hence, with a heavy heart, I took a decision not to invite you. But I request you all to bless the couple,” the superstar said.

Rajini himself supervised all the arrangements for the wedding. According to reports, the actor has gifted a brand new apartment to Soundarya, who is the CEO of Ochre Productions.

The wedding was attended by high-profile people like Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, Telegu star and Praja Rajyam President Cheeranjeevi, Kamal Haasan and actor Surya with wife Jyothika among other big names.Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who will be seen with Rajinikanth in mega-budget ‘Robot’, attended the engagement last night along with husband Abhishek Bachchan.Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and a host of other high profile guests are expected to attend Soundarya’s wedding reception this evening.

Soundarya’s animation film ‘Sultan The Warrior’, starring the superstar, is set for release this year. Rajini has lent his voice to the lead character in the project, with music by A R Rahman.

Though Rajnikanth is one of the most sought after stars of the country and every other filmmaker looks forward to work with him yet he wasn’t the first choice for the much touted sci-fi film ROBOT. Reveals the south megastar in his witty style, “Initially Shankar approached Kamal Hassan and Shahrukh Khan for this film. They were the first choice for it. However it eventually came to me. As they say Daane Daane pe likha hai Khaane waale ka naam (it was destined for me)” ROBOT is Rajnikanth’s second consecutive film with Shankar, with whom he did his previous blockbuster SIVAJI – THE BOSS.

And it is because of this trust which made him take up this role. “Shankar is an excellent technician and one of the best directors of India who can mix the class and commercial elements very well. I did SIVAJI with him and I trust him completely, so I agreed to do the film – else I would have not done the film as it is a very tough and challenging role,” said Rajni.

Further Rajni compared ROBOT to the cult Hindi film SHOLAY, which is still fondly remembered. “Around Rs 160 crore has been invested to make the film. SHOLAY made history not because of the money or budget involved, not because it was a multi-starrer, not because of the technicalities, but because of its subject, superb characterization. So like SHOLAY, in ROBOT too there is an excellent storyline, excellent character sketches. This is the first Indian story of its type. It’s science fiction and excellently made. And I am guaranteeing it.”

Well after coming from Rajni we are all the more eager to check out his sci-fi extravaganza ROBOT.

Hi friends, Ilaya Thalapathy Vijay’s49th film is here, the countdown for 50 begins. But before we start looking too far ahead for the landmark half century film, there is Vettaikaran that is vying for our attention. When you step into a theater for a Vijay film, you clearly know what to expect. There is going to be no time wasted on formalities, subtleties or the so called messages, it will be full throttle entertainment on screen. Vijay films are synonymous with the fully commercial Kollywood fare and the man has been delivering the goods unflinchingly for nearly two decades now. As he moves closer to the 50 mark, the only things that seem to have changed are the stakes. The number of fans is huge and the expectations are big. So can Vettaikaran satisfy the Vijay fans?

You cannot talk about Vijay’s movies and not mention the music. The dance numbers are so very integral to any Vijay movie experience. There are a few here too, set to tune by Vijay Anthony. ‘Karigalan…’, and ‘Naan Adicha’ song have already grabbed a lot of attention, the latter especially because Vijay’s son Sanjay too is a part of it.

Vettaikaran reportedly tells the story of an IAS officer who goes undercover on a mission. In the interim, he also meets the girl of his dreams and love happens. There comes a time when the mission and the consequences get a bit too personal for his comfort. How he solves all problems, finishes off perpetrators and rescues his love form the basic plot of Vettaikaran. There is admittedly nothing much path breaking about the plot. It is the execution of the subject and the star presence that has to carry off this film. Execution is with new director Babu Sivan. His credentials will be on test, but it has to be said that he is indeed lucky to be able to direct Vijay on debut. Vijay, expectedly, will be his usual self on screen, the trailers have given enough evidence. The punch dialogues, the high flying fights will all be there for the fans to enjoy and exalt. Anushka will be a refreshing presence of the Tamil screen after quite a while, her pairing with Vijay is certainly going to be a new and different viewing experience.

With all commercial elements that go towards the making of a Vijay film, the new Vijay-Anushka pairing and a few hit numbers, let us hope that Vettaikaran ushers in a late Diwali for all Ilaya Thalapathi fans.

Hi friends, Last wwek Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty married her long time beau and business associate Raj Kundra in a private ceremony that took place in Kiran Bawa’s villa in Khandala. Thirty-four-year-old Shilpa Shetty met the thirty-three-year-old London-based Raj Kundra after winning the Big Boss reality show and there after they have become so close. Raj, who is a divorcee, has a young daughter from his previous marriage.

Shilpa sported a burgundy and red saree embellished with Swarovski crystals, which was designed by Tarun Tahiliani while Raj wore a maroon and gold sherwani designed by Shantanu and Nikhil.

Shilpa  did not invite many of her Bollywood colleagues to the wedding except Suneil Shetty, Sunny Deol, Jackky and Vasu Bhagnani.The wedding reception that is due to be held on Tuesday, 24th November 2009, will, however, have a host of Bollywood celebrities attending the event. Wishing the couples a happy and wonderful life ahead.

Hi, Venkat Prabhu directed Goa which is being produced by Soundharya Rajinikanth is making news once again. While the film itself boasts of a huge star cast, which includes Sneha, Piya, Juliana Fine, Jai, Vaibhav and Premji, the latest addition has raised the expectations even higher. Yes, Nayanthara and Silambarasan, we hear, will be making a special appearance in Goa.

It was  also heard that it was upon Soundarya’s insistence Silambarasan was roped in to play a cameo in Goa.However, both these stars will not share the screen space together. Our sources in Kollywood say that Nayanthara and Silambarasan’s call sheet have been obtained for different dates.
