Google offers new feature for inbox overload problem

Posted in Information on September 2nd, 2010 by Suresh – Be the first to comment

Google explains that the first thing Priority Inbox does is split your inbox into three sections: “important and unread,” “starred” and “everything else.”"Important” messages are judged to be the most significant, and sit at the top of your Gmail window. Next is the “starred” area, the messages you say are important. Finally, “everything else” includes those messages that can probably be dealt with later, or completely ignored — the ones that aren’t quite spam, but don’t need to clutter up your screen or your brain right now

“Features like Priority Inbox were in the prerelease version of Gmail but were not ready for the public,” Mr. Coleman said. “We finally figured out how to organize and categorize e-mail in a simple and intuitive way using three different criteria.”  Surprisingly, Mr. Coleman said that one of the tools put to use in the new inbox organization is taken from the programming and algorithms used to categorize mail as spam. He said Gmail looks for terms and people that you categorize as important, or not, and decides whether those messages make it into your priority inbox accordingly. The system also looks for the people you interact with on a daily basis, pushing their messages higher up the ladder. Finally the new inbox looks to see if a new e-mail was sent “directly to you, or if it is sent to other people too.”

Users definitely need to keep an eye out for messages that slip into the unwanted netherworld of “everything else.” There were times that I felt like I was training my inbox, as if I was trying to teach a puppy to sit still for a few minutes.

Christmas 2010 nearing!

Posted in Celebrations, Information on September 1st, 2010 by Suresh – Be the first to comment

Christmas all over the world is wonderful.  There’s the chaos of Christmas shopping and the festive fun of Christmas parties and events – and the tranquility of Christmas Day and Boxing Day when you can walk (and drive) around without drowning in shoppers.  But of course that soon ends when the New Year sales kick in!!

Christmas in London is a magical time and made more so by some of the best Christmas lights in the world. Most of them switch on in the middle of November and we recommend checking out Bond Street, Marylebone High Street, Oxford Street, Carnaby Street and Covent Garden – and at the same time of course you can do your London Christmas shopping.  Possibly the most famous lights on a single store are at Harrods in Knightsbridge.

Following a victory at the Battle of Hastings, William the Conqueror, the then Duke of Normandy, was crowned King of England in the newly finished Westminster Abbey on Christmas Day 1066.The Trafalgar Square Christmas tree is usually a Norwegian spruce over 20 metres high and 50-60 years old. It is selected from the forests surrounding Oslo with great care several months, even years, in advance. The Norwegian foresters who look after it describe it fondly as ‘the queen of the forest’.

Vote for ICC People’s Choice Award

Posted in Cricket on August 26th, 2010 by Suresh – 1 Comment

Hi friends, the International Cricket Council has given us the opportunity, for the first time, to vote for our favourite players. India’s Sachin Tendulkar, Australia’s Michael Hussey, Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardene, England’s Andrew Strauss and South African AB de Villiers are five players selected on the basis of some innovative parameters for this year’s ICC People’s Choice Award.

The parameters by which a five-member ICC selection panel included these cricketing greats for the new award included innovation, dynamism, strength in decision-making, performing well under pressure and also executing a plan to distinction.

Sachin Tendulkar: After serving India for more than 21 years, the Master Blaster is playing some of his finest knocks to the surprise of many. Sachin Tendulkar holds almost every batting record in cricket and still is hungry for more. The Little Master, in 169 Tests, has managed 13,837 runs with 48 centuries and 56 half-centuries. In 442 One-Day Internationals, Sachin has amassed 17,598 runs with 46 tons and as many as 93 fifties. The Indian veteran also holds the distinction of being the first batsman to score double hundreds in One-dayers. The marathon man is all but determined to win the World Cup for India, and maybe, the Favourite Player award as well.

Michael Hussey: Australia’s total batsman aka Mr Cricket was the ideal choice to fill in Michael Bevan’s giant shoes. In a country like Australia, with immense depth of talent, Hussey has stamped his authority as an archetypal and valuable ambassador. Each time after being written off, the left-hander bounced back with a bang. Hussey maintains an astounding average of 51 apiece in both Tests and ODIs. In his 52 Tests, Hussey has 3,981 runs with 11 centuries and 21 fifties. In 146 ODIs, Hussey has 4,287 runs with 2 tons and 31 half-centuries. After his breathtaking innings against Pakistan, during the World Twenty20, Mike asserted the fact that the Twenty20 format is worthy of being taken as seriously as Tests.

Mahela Jayawardene: Considered as one of the best batsmen produced by Sri Lankan cricket, Mahela Jayawardene is the only batsmen after the legendary Sir Don Bradman to score nine tons at the same venue. Mahela in 113 Tests has scored 9,408 with 28 centuries and 36 half-centuries. In 325 ODIs, Jayawardene has managed 8,964 runs which include 12 tons and 55 fifties. He has been in marvelous form since the IPL 3, where he was promoted to open the innings for the Kings XI Punjab. No one can forget his blistering innings where he clubbed 110 off just 59 balls against KKR. Since then he has relished his role as an opener in the shortest version of the game. Be it T20 or Test cricket, Mahela has been a true champion in all forms of the game.

Andrew Strauss: The England captain was pivotal in the Ashes, helping England regain the Cup with a famous Oval victory against Australia, both as a captain and as a batsman. The left-handed batsman after taking over from Kevin Pietersen has helped England progress with determination and brilliance. Strauss, in 76 Tests, has managed 5,764 runs with 18 centuries and 21 half-centuries. In 108 ODIs, the England captain has accumulated 3,375 runs which include 4 tons and 22 fifties. Strauss’s quality as a captain will be tested when England travel Down Under for the Ashes series.

AB de Villiers: The athletic South African is a natural-born sportsman. De Villiers was the second youngest South African to reach 1,000 Test runs after Graeme Pollock. Apart from his batting abilities, AB is seriously quick in the outfield with some breathtaking catches and direct throws to his name. He has played 61 Tests and scored 4,232 runs with 10 centuries and 23 half-centuries. As an ODI batsman, de Villiers has managed 3,616 in 101 games which include 7 tons and 22 fifties. The perfect answer to Jonty Rhodes, AB de Villiers has established himself as South Africa’s premier middle order batsman.

These five cricketing giants deservedly made it to the People’s Choice Award list after their series of good performances for their team. And now fans have an opportunity this year to pick their winner from amongst these geniuses. The ICC have asked fans to consider the player who during the voting period (24 August 2009-10 August 2010) has had an all-round impact on the sport.

Enthiran is a forthcoming science-fiction Tamil–language film being directed by S. Shankar, who with Enthiran, directs his tenth feature film. Despite several rumours regarding the lead actors, Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai have been formally announced to portray the lead roles. The film is expected to cost 120 crores, one of the highest ever film budgets of the Chennai film industry.

Initially titled and referred to as Robot, the project was launched by Shankar and producer C. Karunamoorthy, chief executive of Ayngaran International who were set to distribute the film along with Eros Labs. However, in December 2008, both production companies backed off, amidst filming schedules, due to financial problems led by the currently ongoing global market recession. Production rights have now been sold to the Chennai-based Sun Pictures.

As known to all that Super Star Rajinikanth Enthiran the Robot was shot recently at Goa. The entire team had shot some of the important scenes which featuring Super Star, Cochin Haneefa and others. Director Shankar for maintaining secret about the movie

Split in One day international cricket

The new format will divide innings into two blocks, the first of 20 overs and the second of 25 overs, with fielding restrictions for the first five overs.

Bowlers will be able to bowl a maximum of 12 overs rather than the usual 10, and fast bowlers will be permitted to bowl two bouncers an over rather than one.

Sutherland said that the modified format was developed following feedback from fans that while one-day cricket was their favorite format it needed refreshing to retain that status.

“ODI cricket is already popular and this is about maintaining its popularity by responding to the parallel message that change is needed,” The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Sutherland, as saying.

“Success will be measured via formal research that tests the public response to the new format after a full season of trialling the new format in a serious, elite, nationally televised competition in which there are serious outcomes at stake,” he added.

He further said that board expects the new format would make a significant alteration to the nature of the game.

“We certainly hope the format, which we believe is evolutionary, makes for more attacking cricket throughout all overs of the game in a format which offers captains some new ideas to play with,” Sutherland said.

Robot audio release – Rajini’s speech

Though Rajnikanth is one of the most sought after stars of the country and every other filmmaker looks forward to work with him yet he wasn’t the first choice for the much touted sci-fi film ROBOT. Reveals the south megastar in his witty style, “Initially Shankar approached Kamal Hassan and Shahrukh Khan for this film. They were the first choice for it. However it eventually came to me. As they say Daane Daane pe likha hai Khaane waale ka naam (it was destined for me)” ROBOT is Rajnikanth’s second consecutive film with Shankar, with whom he did his previous blockbuster SIVAJI – THE BOSS.

And it is because of this trust which made him take up this role. “Shankar is an excellent technician and one of the best directors of India who can mix the class and commercial elements very well. I did SIVAJI with him and I trust him completely, so I agreed to do the film – else I would have not done the film as it is a very tough and challenging role,” said Rajni.

Further Rajni compared ROBOT to the cult Hindi film SHOLAY, which is still fondly remembered. “Around Rs 160 crore has been invested to make the film. SHOLAY made history not because of the money or budget involved, not because it was a multi-starrer, not because of the technicalities, but because of its subject, superb characterization. So like SHOLAY, in ROBOT too there is an excellent storyline, excellent character sketches. This is the first Indian story of its type. It’s science fiction and excellently made. And I am guaranteeing it.”

Well after coming from Rajni we are all the more eager to check out his sci-fi extravaganza ROBOT.
